Reggio Calabria, southern region of Italy, so delightful to tour and discover its beauties. It is amazing that within a short distance, you can enjoy swimming in the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea, all with its unique local lovely landscapes. We had a surprise that we were able to make an unplanned visit to Taverna, which although it is twinned with Zurrieq, yet it is the birth home of Mattia Preti whose a well known artist in Malta especially in my home town of Zejtun. Being from Zejtun, I was given “red carpet” treatment and although the Museum was closed on the day we were there, we were allowed to visit it and get to know in more detail this celebrated artist, so famous for his masterpieces and so familiar to me having been taught about him during history lessons and from our local locality. I must mention their wine, although not commercially exposed in our local market, I must say that it is best I have tasted, so full bodied reflecting the region’s right weather, terrain and history.
